Frequently Asked Questions
How does Core Process Psychotherapy differ from other types of therapy?

Core Process Psychotherapy is a mindfulness based approach. While many therapies focus on problem-solving and making changes, this approach invites curiosity and gentle awareness of all aspects of your experience. It is less about "fixing" and more about understanding yourself in a deeper, more compassionate way.

How long does therapy typically last?

Everyone’s journey is unique and psychotherapy is an open-ended process that can adapt to your needs and pace. Short-term work can be helpful for particular current issues, whereas longer-term therapy allows more space for depth and complexity to unfold. This can be especially supportive when exploring how past experiences shape the present. Along the way we will regularly reflect together to make sure the work continues to support what feels most important to you.

Will everything I say be confidential?

Confidentiality and safety are central to the work we do together. What you share in sessions is treated as confidential, except in situations where there is a serious risk to yourself or someone else and even then I would hope to gain your consent before sharing any information. I adhere to the ethical and professional standards of both the UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy) and the ACPP (Association of Core Process Psychotherapists).

How do I know if this type of therapy is right for me?

It is natural to feel uncertain. The initial consultation offers a chance to ask questions and get a feel for this therapy without obligation to proceed. While this approach draws on Buddhist principles of awareness and compassion, it is a secular approach suitable for people of any faith background or none.
